With all the outdoor entertaining and barbecuing we do every summer, this Shis Kabobs Marinade Recipe always get the most ravings!
But first, check out these 7 Great Tips for making your Shis Kabobs perfect every time!
*Tip #1: If using wooden sticks for your Kabobs, soak them in warm water for a few minutes before you start building your Shis Kabobs. This can prevent them from catching on fire and also helps prevent them from splintering when you start threading the meat on them.
*Tip #2: Try to cut the meat and vegetables about the same size so they cook evenly.
*Tip #3: Marinate the meat for as long as you can- the longer the better.
*Tip #4: Keep a little space between the meats and vegetables so that the food gets better grilled.
*Tip #5: Use double skewers to make your Kabobs easier to turn.
*Tip #6: Brush the grill with vegetable oil after it’s hot to help keep the Kabobs from sticking.
*Tip #7: Don’t overcook your Shis Kabobs because the meat and veggies will continue to cook a little even after you take them off the grill.
Now, for the Savory Shis Kabob Marinade Recipe:
In a large ziplock bag, mix together:
1/2 Cup Chopped Onions (either dried or fresh onion chopped into little pieces)
1/2 Cup Lemon Juice
1/4 Cup Vegetable Oil
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Celery Salt
1/2 teaspoon Thyme
1/2 teaspoon Crushed Oregano Leaves
1/2 teaspoon Crushed Rosemary Leaves
1 Clove Garlic
Cut up beef or chicken into small, bite size chunks and add to ziplock bag and marinate in refrigerator a few hours or even overnight. (At the very least, marinate 1/2 hour if you are in a hurry to eat!).
Cut up all your vegetables – Mushrooms, Bell Peppers, Cocktail Onions (or regular Onions), Cherry Tomatoes, etc and place them in a large bowl.
Make 1-2 more recipes of marinade (depending on how many vegetables you are using) and pour over all vegetables in bowl. Gently stir to get marinade on all vegetables. Cover and leave to marinate until ready to assemble Kabobs.
Assemble Shis Kabobs, heat up the grill, and cook your Kabobs for about 10 to 15 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through. Turn the Kabobs every few minutes to ensure even cooking. (Make sure chicken is fully cooked to 165F).
And that’s it. You will soon discover that these are the BEST Shis Kabobs that ever came off a summer grill!
And if by some odd chance you have leftovers (highly unlikely!), they are still incredibly tasty the next day if you heat them up in the microwave for just a few seconds. (Just be sure to get to them before someone else in the house does!).
